Russia, September 15, 2015 — Scientists at Innovation Center Biriuch (the research center of EFKO Group — the largest company on the Russian fats & oils market) have developed the first Russian production technologies of high-tech surfactants for personal care products.
Surfactants are one of the major components used in a detergent production: liquid soaps, shampoos, gels, etc. They present specific chemical constituent elements that lower the surface tension and conduce to foam or emulsion formation and depending on their type they have wetting, washing, spraying ability, provide antiseptic and other actions. The quality of surfactants defines the quality of the final products.
In 2014, consumption of surfactants amounted 121 thousand tonnes with 60 % import rate. Until recently, Russian producers have been able to produce only low-quality technical surfactants, when high-quality components used in complex cosmetic products production as shampoos, shower gels, etc. were fully imported.
Throughout the company development history, EFKO Group presents as one of the Russian leaders in the field of innovation and advanced technologies. Among the first on the market, the company realized the need to create domestic research & production laboratories and a research center. Largely due to the EFKO Group, since the 2000s the rate of imported bottled oil declined from 28 % to 0,2 %, imported fats — from 49 % to 12 %.
In recent years, at Innovation Center Biriuch, EFKO Group’s research center, were conducted researches and development processes in the field of oleochemistry — deep processing of vegetable oils and manufacturing both food and non-food products with high-technologies implementation.
Nowadays, scientists have been able to develop production technologies for 9 kinds of high-tech surfactants with equal qualities as their foreign analogues. Another 4 are in the process of being finalized.
Among them are classic types of surfactants — cocamidopropyl betaine, cocamide MEA and DEA, cocamidopropyl amine oxide and high-tech “soft” surfactants — sodium cocoyl sarcosinate, sodium comamide MEA sulfosuccinate, sodium cocoyl glycinate and sodium cocoyl glutomate. They combine biologically “soft” action, carefully acting on the human’s skin and hair, with high cleaning performance, environmental friendliness and are dermatologically-tested and environmental safe products. It allows using them in eco-cosmetics production, in both sensitive skin care and kids products, and in home care products.
Until recently, due to the high innovation and technology level of production these surfactants were represented on Russian market only by a few foreign manufacturers.
At the beginning of 2015, EFKO Group entered the toilet soap market releasing product samples manufactured with implementation of these components superior to foreign analogues available on the Russian market. The company intends to further expand the products line.
To ensure the high scientific and technical development level at short notice, EFKO Group created a unique scientific and research base in Russia as well as enabled the best talented young professionals at Innovation Center Biriuch. There they have favorable conditions to disclosure both professional and creative potential.
According to Tatiana Sanina, Head of business administration department of EFKO Group’s oleochemistry business sector: “Russian high-quality multifunctional surfactants are able of achieving a breakthrough in Russian cosmetic industry development. So we pay particular attention to developments in this area”.
